How to inject Glucagon in emergency situation?

What is GlucaGen 1 mg injection ?
It is recombinant DNA molecule,  structurally similar to human glucagon. Glucagon is a hyperglycemic agent that mobilizes stored  liver glycogen to release glucose into blood.
It treats severe hypoglycemic reactions in diabetes patients, who may have lost consciousness due to low blood glucose. One set contains one vial of 1 mg glucagon and solvent for reconstitution.

When is GlucaGen 1 mg unsuitable?
Glucagon will not be effective in patients whose have been fasting for prolonged period as there would be little stored glycogen in the liver for mobilization. Patients who suffer from adrenal insufficienciency, chronic low blood glucose or alcohol- induced glucose should not be treated with glucagon.

How fast will GluGagen 1 mg act?
When used to treat severe low blood glucose, the effect on blood glucose is seen within 10 minute after subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. If the patient responds within 10 minute, oral glucose solution is given. If no effect is seen in 10 minutes, intravenous glucose should be given.

How should GlucaGen 1 mg be given?
By subcutaneous or intramuscular injection only
For adult and children above 25 kg : Administer 1 mg
For pediatric patients: Administer 0.5 mg for children below 25 kg or younger than 6 to 8 year

How should GlucaGen 1 mg be stored?
Store in the refrigerator (2-8 ℃)

How to inject?

Always prepare a 3 ml syringe and 2 needles together with the vial of GlucaGen 1 mg as these are not available in the set.
Train a close friend or relative to inject GlucaGen for you

Step 1

Remove the plastic cap from vials. Draw all the water into the 3ml syringe. Insert the needle through the rubber stopper of the vial containing GlucaGen 1mg. Inject all the liquid from the syringe into the vial.

Step 2

Without taking the needle out of the vial, gently shake the vial until GlucaGen has completely dissolved and the solution is cleared.

Step 3

Make sure the plunger is completely down. While keeping the needle in the liquid, slowly withdraw the solution back in the syringe. Do not pull the plunger out of the syringe.

Step 4

Make an air shot and inject.
